Electronic Control Upgrade for Fishing Vessel Ocean Explorer
May 20, 2018
The Wheelhouse has 3 Stations, the display provides read outs for pitch position, engine speed and engine load. The new system will help to save fuel and reduce emissions. Marex OS from Aventics is an Open System, control functions can be programmed to fit the operator's needs.
The Marex OS is a multi-talent. The ABS/Lloyds approved hardware platform can be used for controllable pitch propellers, reversing gear power trains or Voith-Schneider Propellers.
The CAN bus is the reason why the communication between the bridge station and the engine room processor is so reliable. CAN bus works over hundreds of meters without sending a wrong command.
The system has a redundant power supply, 110 AC and 24V DC, if one supply fails, the ships alarm system will warn the engineer, but the captain can continue to operate the vessel without interruption.
The Alpha CPP Gear box command rack travels ca. 2 inches to each side of the center. We installed a WABCO B positioner. This unit is precise and very reliable, especially in the environment below the deck plates. The positioner is controlled by two air commands for ahead and astern, this allows to install a pneumatic emergency station.
Propeller pitch and engine speed are controlled by electro pneumatic valves made by Aventics.
A new engine RPM pickup was installed, The PLC uses the engine RPM for several functions like clutch interlock. This function only allows to close the clutch at idle speed. The station displays show the engine SPEED as digital readout.
