Electronic Propulsion Controls

The Marex OS is a multi-talent. The same ABS/Lloyds approved hardware platform can be used for controllable pitch propellers, jet propulsions, reversing gear power trains or Voith-Schneider Propellers.

The core of the system is the MPC, a very reliable PLC that runs the control software.

The CAN bus is the reason the communication between the bridge station and the engine room MPC is so reliable. CAN bus works over hundreds of meters without sending a wrong command.

The MPC's power supply, CAN BUS, the inputs and outputs are fully galvanically insulated. This is the reason the unit is so robust and survives in the engine room. (Who disconnects all electronic equipment before welding in the engine room?)

Details are important

The Form A electric connectors we use are water tight, have an indication LED, contact protection circuit and a molded gasket.

We use WAGO spring cage terminals, these maintain contact pressure at all times.

Countless service calls can be avoided, if the installation is vibration proof and the electrical connections have a high quality standard.

Basic Control Functions:

Electric Engine Input, the direct connection to the engine control module without mechanical actuators and linkages, is reliable and maintenance free.

Neutral Delay, when the handle is moved from ahead to astern the controls hold the neutral command for a few seconds to allow the shaft to slow down, before the reverse clutch is engaged.

Clutch Pressure Feedback, the speed output remains idle until the clutch is closed.

Shaft brake, Time delays and internal logic extend the life of the brake pads, without affecting the maneuverability.

RPM Indication, the display can show engine and shaft RPM.
